Backstage, the summer shooting

Backstage, le shooting d'été

For this new article we take you behind the scenes of our shooting!

A second part of the collection still in Sitges in Spain but with a much more present summer air!

We decided to do everything in-house for the sake of economy, time and ease during the covid period, with Sandra still as a model and Mabel in makeup (MUA in the industry;))

After discovering our latest collection, discover the work behind these images!

Mélissa, co-founder & photographer of the day

Usually I take care of everything that is visible, so after a quick learning curve, let's go for the photos!

Philip, co-founder & filmmaker of the day

Rather into Excel spreadsheets or stocks, Philip discovered a passion for videos!

Coline, head of retail & assistant of the day

You may have seen her at Bon Marché, but for this day she is in charge of jewelry and preparation!

The places, the outfits, the light

Once the jewelry is ready, the moodboard in mind and the team found, I take care of a crucial element: the organization of the day.

What jewelry will enhance the outfit, where to take a picture, when to take the pictures for the best light? Shooting outdoors also means no place to leave your stuff and change quietly. At each shooting, my priority is to make a realistic rendering, atmospheres that resemble our everyday life and in this case, our vacations.

So here we go for a long powerpoint with the details and locations of the shots. On this beach collection we also had to find a place where we could be quiet and not have 1000 people around us. Hours on google maps, instagram and Pinterest later everything was ready! The shooting day can begin.

9am: Makeup and set up

After the transport to get to Sitges, it's time for the makeup for the day. Having the sun for this shooting was obvious but it complicates the makeup, just like the heat! Fortunately we want a very light makeup... it still takes 1 hour to prepare the skin and hair!

And since everything doesn't go as planned, 0 open cafes to sit down and do our makeup. 9am in Spain out of season, a little too early! Everything will open at 1pm but with this view we're not going to complain...

While the model is getting ready, we prepare the clothes and jewelry in the order of the brief.

Let's start shooting!

Morning in the city center

The first breaks follow one after the other, no one in sight until 11 o'clock! Under a large towel, Sandra changes her outfit and Coline prepares and puts on some jewelry. 2 hours where we must not hang around before the sun is too strong (even if it already is) and where we must have all the required photos: the ones worn from afar, the zooms to show you the jewelry as best as possible, the atmospheres that will be used for social networks.

You loved the videos in part 1 so here we go again, Philip is in charge of filming with Sandra, still as comfortable as a model or actress!

Did you ask for an anecdote?

The sand burned our feet and one of us had Birkenstocks. When we went into the sand we took turns wearing them.

Whether you think it's ugly or stylish, it saved our feet!

Check that the jewelry is in place, that the labels or underwear are not sticking out, that the makeup has not run and that the sun cream is not visible...

Did you ask for an anecdote?

During the videos Sandra threw the hat towards Philip to create an effect in the editing. The throw was a little too powerful. We'll let you guess the rest

THE BREAK

Too much light at noon (and a little hungry...) it's tapas time! The specialty of course: croquettas and patatas bravas. As we always say at Waekura: you have to know how to treat yourself ;)

(ps: yes, it was very hot)

MEGA HAPPY for the team, after 10 minutes of driving we arrive on a beach in a small deserted cove! Chance does things well and even in full sun we will be able to enjoy this sublime setting!

ps: Sunscreen is clearly our best ally

pps: If you were wondering about this pretty one-piece swimsuit, Sandra changed her outfit at the restaurant ;)

An incredible setting, huge sunshine and a great team, what more could you ask for. The breaks are all more beautiful than the others, we will stay on this beach all afternoon!

Did you ask for an anecdote?

The idea was to get a "I'm coming out of the water like a James Bond girl" style photo. Did we get it? Yes. Did a wave suddenly come in (a little too high)? Yes. We'll let you guess the rest

End of a day at the marina to freshen up, take a few last photos and enjoy a little before heading back.

A day as great as it was intense, everyone tanned and exhausted by the sun but happy to have managed to create great content for our site!

What's next? Selecting the photos (only 10%), retouching the colors, compressing them for the site and preparing the communication!

I hope you enjoyed this little behind-the-scenes look, head over to the product pages to see the final photos ;)
